Emerging Talent on Display at Leeds Craft Centre…
Discover, Experience and Learn With Every Visit…
A trio of talented ceramists making their mark in the world of Contemporary Craft will be highlighted in The Leeds Craft Centre and Design Gallery’s exciting Spring Exhibition programme this year. Emerging talents Kate Welton, Hannah Tounsend and Josie Seymour-Jones explore stoneware, earthenware and porcelain with a variety of making and decorating techniques. Each individual shares the love and beauty of mark making with their richly animated surfaces treating the clay as their canvas. The show, called Beneath the Surface really highlights the work that The Craft Centre does in Craft education bringing the very best of Contemporary Craft to a wide audience.
Artistic Director at the gallery for the last 25 years Hayley Walker spoke of their work: “Here at The Craft Centre and Design Gallery we not only showcase the work of hundreds of makers at any one time but we act as a resource for students, collectors and visitors interested in Contemporary Craft. Each maker has a CV which provides an insight into their work detailing their background and inspirations, descriptions of collections are displayed alongside the work and we produce information boards which support our main ceramic and print exhibitions throughout the year. Our website shares our current and forthcoming exhibitions and our social media posts keep you up to date with the daily goings on at the gallery. Each member of The Craft Centre team has extensive knowledge in particular craft disciplines which they’re more than happy to share with you when you pay us a visit. With an ever changing seasonal exhibition programme uncovering new talents, emerging makers and well established makers too The Craft Centre ensures it is at the cutting edge of contemporary craft. Next time you visit our website why not look back at our 34 year history in our archive to see the work we’ve done over the years and the makers who have been at the centre of our vibrant exhibition programme.”
